The boxes are closed on the side with a bracket, there is no rubber seal. It is not air and waterproof, but it is dustproof and protects well against vermin.

So it's airtight in the sense that no dust or animals can get in. But it is not 100% airtight. But it is suitable for storing things in the cellar or attic.
