The whole frame, except for the 2 feet, is a part where the panel is then mounted. So you would have to flex out this cross member. I agree with the previous speaker about the stability.

The internal spacing is 104 cm. A piece of furniture could be that wide.

By the way, I have the table myself and so far I am very satisfied.

Distance between the legs: 116.4 cm (outer edge).
If you leave out the cross strut, the table is probably unstable, the table legs slant and the motor tilts. That would be my guess.
