No, these strips are meant to be attached to the TV and the lights synchronise with the sound of the TV, just like the Philips TVs have built in. For this to work the Hue PLay HDMI sync box must be connected. Each playback device must first pass through the box before the sound is passed on to the TV. This is the only way the box can adjust the lights to the sound from the TV, otherwise it makes no sense and you can use normal LED strips from Philips.
