Sam no longer opens his eyes automatically during the wake phase when it lights up green... Is the function defective? If so, then it's no good, it doesn't fulfil its purpose. It would be a great pity...

Have you already tried a reset? On the underside with a paper clip, for example? You can also trigger the function manually in the unlocked display. Press and hold the top button = Sam opens his eyes. Press and hold the bottom button = Sam closes his eyes. Hope it works.
