Product details
The Chemex is an absolute eye-catcher. Functionality and design are combined in a practical and elegant coffee filter. The Chemex is unique in every way. Filter coffee with unparalleled clarity and its outstanding design rightfully secure the Chemex a category of its own among our brewing methods. The carafe is made from a single piece of heat-resistant borosilicate glass. Its handle, shaped like a wooden collar, allows for very easy handling. With the Chemex, coffee is brewed like with other pour-over filters, but it can also be served directly from the carafe. The secret of the Chemex lies in its shape with a single large opening and the conical filters, which ensure an even coffee extraction. The Chemex was developed in 1941 by the German-born chemist Dr. Peter Schlumbohm in New York. He created a perfect interplay of carafe, filter technology, and manual brewing. For example, the spout at the top of the carafe facilitates pouring and allows for air exchange between the upper and lower parts. It is part of the collections at MoMA, New York, the Corning Museum of Glass, and the Philadelphia Museum of Art. The Illinois Institute of Technology named the carafe one of the 100 best-designed products of modern times.
