The locally displaying standard thermometers operate on the principle of a bimetallic spiral. The measuring principle is based on the fact that the bimetallic spiral is exposed to the medium temperature within a stainless steel or brass immersion tube. As temperatures rise or fall, the spiral twists. This twisting directly affects the pointer via an axis. The pointer deflection is thus proportional to the temperature change.
