During preparation with the coffee maker, the coffee grounds have a relatively long contact time with the brewing water, similar to brewing tea. This allows small suspended particles, fats, and essential oils, which are valuable flavor carriers, to gradually transfer into the brewing water. In the end, only the solid components of the coffee grounds are separated from the liquid coffee using the coarse sieve of the plunger. Unlike brewing with a paper filter, where valuable flavor carriers are mostly lost, the coffee maker delivers a full-bodied drink, providing an intense and complex tasting experience.
