The Eve Thermos currently use a so-called Thread network. This expands automatically via (at least) one control centre - e.g. HomePod mini - and other HomePods as well as devices that are permanently connected to the network - e.g. Eve Energy. Yes, the thermostats connect themselves within the Thread network. Wifi does not have to be available everywhere. Or Bluetooth for direct response. They have been working perfectly for me for 2 years.
