You also have to clean the humidifiers regularly, so you shouldn't underestimate the effort. The Xiaomi humidifiers can also be controlled via Wi-Fi with the help of the Mi Home app and also switch off when the water level is too low. This also helps to save electricity. However, the SmartMi humidifier stays off when it is disconnected from the power supply (I just tried it). I think a solution that has a sensor to switch it off and that can be integrated into the Smart Home is better than timers.

Two humidifiers would have the advantage that they can be better distributed in the room (I also think white is prettier than such a black monster).
