Can you also use the (old plastic) water bottles from Sodastream with this sparkling water maker (i.e. not the new ones for Quick Connect)? Or do they have a different thread? (I'm not asking about the cylinders, this question is answered here on the website).

The old bottles fit just like the new bottles. The thread is exactly the same.
The old bottles have one major disadvantage. The metal base is glued and can fall off after a while.
My experience: The metal base can no longer be glued on afterwards.
Disposal is also more difficult if the glued base has to be removed, if it is still attached at all.
The new bottle has a click system.
