Hello, I have used the Philips Avance Collection SpeedTouch for chopping dried tomatoes. It works fine. I haven't chopped dried dates yet.
By the way, the appliance is very robust and it can take a beating.

I'm not sure. Blender is very good for soup and such. I've had better with choppers. But I can't say for sure. Sorry.
