I don't have any cat (hair) or sand. As the appliance is primarily a hoover and I have had very good experiences with it, I assume that it has no problems with this either (cat hair is short anyway and usually not a problem). The green thing is the mop attachment. It is very suitable if the floor is already clean, as the suction function of the mop attachment is only rudimentary.
