How often do the evaporator cassettes have to be changed? And what is the purpose of the Ionic Silver Cube and how often does it need to be changed?

The cartridges should be changed every 3 months. Since we only need the humidifier from Nov-Feb, I always keep them in for a season. The cube is responsible for destroying bacteria in the water and, as far as I know, does not need to be changed.
