If the air conditioner sends the status of the unit via IR, i.e. if the external display has an IR receiver, it could work. The Tado website has an overview of compatible devices and there is also a forum where you can ask questions.
The installation is also explained on the website. The controller needs power and via the app you select which command set works for your air conditioner by specifying the air conditioner type and the remote control's item number. This could be quite painful if the air conditioner is directly from the caravan manufacturer...
