Is it absolutely necessary to use the special Durgol descaler? Is the standard Durgol not enough?

You don't need Durgol for this appliance. At most, it will damage the boiler. The limescale collects in an anode on the side of the machine. You can unscrew it and simply rinse it off. The time is indicated by an LED. The tank is rinsed out with normal water about every 3 months.
