the pan currently costs 80.-, a similar one from Tefal costs 40.-. Is there a feature that makes this pan so expensive that I am overlooking? Is it really such a high quality pan or just overpriced?

The Kuhn Rikon Fiveply pan is more expensive because it is made of multi-layer material (several layers of metal for very even heat distribution), has a robust non-stick coating and high-quality workmanship. Cheaper Tefal pans are simpler in construction, have thinner bases and basic non-stick, which works well for everyday use but is less even and durable. If durability, heat distribution and finish are important to you, the Kuhn Rikon pan is of higher quality; for simple cooking, an inexpensive Tefal pan is usually sufficient.
