The unit is probably too long to be placed in a cupboard. Does anyone know how long the unit effectively is and if there is an optional telescopic tube to make it a bit more compact? - I couldn't find anything on the Dyson website or in the user manual.

It can be disassembled relatively easily, so that only the unit itself remains. Then it could also be stored in the cupboard.

Yes there are telescopic tubes, but not from Dyson itself, but from other manufacturers.
