Product details

After more than two years of development, the Maxxis Assegai is finally here! Greg Minnaar's signature tire embodies the essence of his 30 years of racing experience combined with Maxxis's expertise from over 50 years of tire production. "My idea was to design a tire using the best Maxxis profiles. I started in the middle with a combination of the Minion DHF and Minion DHR II. The reason for this was that the DHF rolls well and holds up great on hardpack, in slippery corners, and on wet roots and rocks. The DHR II rolls even better and can brake more aggressively. Then I worked on an 'extra' knob that gives you more support and a consistent feel when you lean the bike into corners on the outer knobs. This brings us to my favorite tire – the HighRoller. The Maxxis engineers and I reshaped the HighRoller side knob to have pretty much the same characteristics as the original. But with the support from this extra knob, you have the ultimate wingman when you charge hard into flat corners. Ultimately, I adopted the knob height from the Shorty. The knobs are well supported, allowing the increased profile to grip well in forest soil and dry, dusty ground.".
