My, it doesn't take much force. The ear pads are tucked in on the one hand and are also threaded into the side straps and are thus also held and stabilised. The helmet still has straps that go under the chin and are joined there with a buckle. These straps/buckle are missing in the pictures. The pads are additionally threaded into these straps.

These can be threaded out from the side straps, and they are also somewhat stuck in the hard shell. I find that the ear pads are very well solved: they sit firmly and stably, but can be removed relatively easily and quickly.
