You only need the app to set it up. After that, you can use the Trotti without the app. However, you cannot use certain functions. To change the driving mode, for example from Eco to Sport, you absolutely need the app. (You could set it to Sport at the beginning when initialising) and locking the scooter is also not possible without the app.
