I have an iPhone with prepaid. A description says that the Deeper works as a hotspot. Does that mean data transfer Deeper/iPhone directly, without using a mobile network?

The first part of Felix is correct, but the second (turn off mobile data), I can not confirm, I never had connection problems with my iPhone and the Deeper.

The Deeper works over the Wlan (without network provider) so costs you nothing - on the contrary with the iPhone you have to switch off the mobile network/mobile data, otherwise you have connection problems Deeper/iPhone.
