I read in a comment on another site that damage can occur if the unit is left upright all the time. Can anyone comment on this? I would also like to know how loud the device is during intensive training? Thanks

Do you mean damage to the floor or damage to the unit? I have a bath towel on the floor at the front of the wheels because I have parquet flooring and the unit with the water at the front is quite heavy and I am a petite person. That way I don't have any problems setting it up. I need the rowing machine every day but otherwise it stands upright all day and so far I have had no problems. I've had the machine for less than a year and it's still in tip-top condition. I am very satisfied with it. I hope the answer helps you.
