I understand that it makes noise, but will it disturb the neighbours more than say the noise from a 1600W vacuum cleaner? Can't decide between this and Schwinn IC8!!! The rower is a better fitness gadget, but the bike is quieter and takes less space....hmmm!

Nope! Perfect rower, use ear pads for music and you don't hear the noise. Neibours won't hear.

I agree with the previous response. The noise is neglectable, a bit wind and slide noise. And the Concept2 is a dream machine, I like it very much.
