I would like to use the Philips Curved Monitor for office use. Sometimes you hear the fear that curved monitors bend the lines of Excel spreadsheets and the like. Is this true? Is this a problem?

Nope. It's very comfortable. The curvature is supposed to compensate for the dull field of vision. I don't notice anything.

I don't mind the curvature - more important, depending on the connection option, is that both inputs reflect the correct colour settings so that there is no shadow gap within the excel.
