Lead-acid batteries should not be connected to solar modules for an indefinite period without an appropriate charging voltage limit, as the battery can be damaged when the gassing voltage is reached. This charge controller automatically disconnects the charging current when the final charging voltage is reached and reconnects it when the minimum voltage (13V) is reached. The module is simply connected between the solar panel and the battery.
