For processing various workpiece geometries and materials, PFERD offers a wide range of tools made from abrasive materials on backing. These tools consist of a carrier material, a basic bond, and a top bond to secure the abrasive grains. Depending on the grain size, tools made from abrasive materials on backing can achieve either a high material removal rate or a very fine surface finish. The available carrier materials differ in their properties such as tear resistance, flexibility, and wear resistance. By choosing the appropriate backing, the grinding tool is adapted to the requirements of the intended application: paper is commonly used in the woodworking industry and in crafts, for example by carpenters, painters, and varnishers; fabric is predominantly used in metalworking; and vulcanized fiber is highly wear-resistant and is available in various thicknesses, mainly used for the production of fiber grinders. This set consists of 40 different flap grinders made of corundum A with a shank diameter of 6 mm. In flap grinders, the flaps made from abrasive material on backing are arranged radially in a fan shape around the axis of the tool. Due to their flexibility, they adapt ideally to the contours of the workpiece. The abrasive grain is embedded in a synthetic resin bond on the tensile, flexible fabric backing. Grain sizes range from 15 to 40 mm with grit sizes of 60 to 150.
