How often do you have to change the battery? Can the battery be recharged or do I have to buy a new battery directly? If you have to buy a new battery, what kind of battery is it?

Helpful answer

It is a flat wide button cell battery. The battery supplied cannot be charged, but this could of course be replaced. My batteries have lasted for 15 months and none of them is flat. I don't think I can check the battery level without taking one out.

Addition to Anonymous: The battery status can be read out with a suitable app, e.g. with the Hue Essentials app. Philips' own app cannot do this.
