What else is needed to make the perfect fire? Thank you
Coals and a lighting aid. I use the ones from Flammator. The ventilation is so perfect that it's child's play to make a fire. I've never needed wood. I also rarely use it as a barbecue but mostly in combination with a Petromax Dutch oven.
Thanks to its double-walled construction with carburettor effect, the Atago burns relatively cleanly and with little smoke. However, this no longer works if the logs are too large and protrude over the edge! Logs shorter than 25cm are ideal. Unfortunately, standard firewood is a little too long, but does not work completely smoke-free.
Hello DarthShadow. The Atago is a great barbecue to take with you. The ground under the barbecue practically doesn't get hot. If the grass or forest floor is very dry, I would still put a stone underneath or remove any flammable material.
You can use any dry wood for a fire. It is perfect for barbecuing and requires very little wood or charcoal as the distance between the grill and the fire is relatively small. I also recommend a sturdy 3-legged base so that you can adjust the height of the grill. The Atago is also great in combination with the Dutch oven from Petromax.
I use the Atago as a campfire and use either hardwood or collected wood. If I want to cook something that takes longer, I throw in some charcoal briquettes. For me, it's the perfect fire and barbecue site. That's all you need, everything has already been said below.
I've used everything in the Atago: Charcoal, brickets, wood.
Before that, I had the Lotus grill. In my eyes, it was total rubbish, especially the heat distribution was horrendous. After a few months, I replaced it with the Atago. The Atago is worlds better and can be used universally.
I use normal charcoal for barbecuing. Lighting cubes are suitable as a lighting aid.
Tip: less is more, the Atago develops a lot of heat under the grill, you only need a little charcoal. Don't forget tongs for turning the food. The Atago is a real pleasure to use.
I use a Weber Rapidfire type fire starter and use briquettes! They allow you to calculate the amount needed for each dish!
