Product details

The Automotore FS 206/207/208 was a family of Italian, licensed variants of the Breuer IV, a light shunting locomotive developed in the 1920s by the German company H. Breuer & Co. It is estimated that nearly 400 shunting locomotives based on the IV model were produced by the companies Antonio Badoni Lecco (1932–1969) and Officine Costamasnaga di Como (1929–1932). They served with the Italian State Railways (FS) and private companies at least until the 1990s. Model builders looking to recreate derelict vehicles can easily find color reference photos of abandoned, rusty shunting locomotives waiting for their fate on sidings. In July 1942, Italian engineers restored the railway line from Tobruk to El-Alamein, which was subsequently used for transporting troops and supplies for the Regio Esercito and the Afrika Korps. Several dozen Automotores delivered from Italy on July 26, 1942, formed the main traction on this line until November 1942. In North Africa, the shunting locomotives, commonly nicknamed "sogliola" ("Sole") due to their typical shape, were instead referred to as "scatole di sardine" ("sardine cans") or "armadi viaggianti" ("traveling wardrobes"). This 1:35 scale kit can be built either as a variant from World War II in North Africa or as a post-war model with several characteristic modifications. Also included are a 19 cm long track section and a figure of a sergeant from the Italian Engineer Corps. Main features of the kit: - over 180 plastic parts for the shunting locomotive and a track section - optional parts for World War II and post-war variants - 1 figure of a sergeant from the Italian Army - 4 painting/marking options.
