Pop the corks! The civil assistance and order service was established in 1950 as a federal agency under the auspices of the Ministry of the Interior. The THW consists of professional staff and more than 40 times as many volunteers – including many women! The "Blue Helpers" have been indispensable rescuers in emergencies during numerous missions, such as the storm surge in Hamburg, the mining disaster in Lengede, the century flood on the Oder and Elbe rivers, the terrible flood disaster in the Ahr Valley, and many more. The THW is also a reliable organization for international missions in earthquake areas and for aid in war zones. Even at football matches or other large events, the THW is present, providing logistics, catering, and (emergency) power supply. Hats off!
