Vossloh Locomotives is one of the European market leaders in the construction of diesel locomotives. The G 1000 BB is suitable for heavy shunting and light line service. It is approved for use in Germany, Italy, Luxembourg, and France. In SBB Cargo, they carry the series designation Am 842. Some locomotives were leased in 2006 by the then Railion Deutschland to test their suitability as a potential successor to the series 290/294. They were assigned the series number 261 for this purpose, but these officially recorded numbers were not displayed on the vehicles.
