After 40 years of IC connections in Germany, the fleet was a colorful mix. With the "IC mod." project, DB AG aimed to put an end to this situation and began implementing some prototype modifications starting in 2009. From 2012 onwards, series modifications commenced at the repair works in Kassel, Neumünster, and Nuremberg, where the cars received new interiors according to ICE standards, new doors, air conditioning, and wiring. In contrast to the original design, PIKO opted for a complete redesign of the modernized IC cars. The vehicles were accurately scaled to 1:87 and impress with fine engravings and flush-mounted windows. The interior is reproduced in high detail and is on par with the original. The bogies also impress with many details, such as individually mounted spring packs, magnetic brakes, and brake disc replicas on the axles. A look underneath the cars is also worthwhile. Machinery, battery compartments, and all supply lines have been meticulously recreated with great attention to detail. The second-class car is, of course, prepared for easy retrofitting of interior lighting.
