Oware Game for Children and Adults
Arguably the oldest strategy game in the world captivates both young and old players! In this bean game, also known as Hus Bao, Awale, or Omweso, the goal is to collect as many game pieces ("seeds") as possible in your own winning pit ("Kalaha"). The game is played in pairs until all the pits of one player are empty. The foldable stone game is perfect for on-the-go play due to its compact size and serves as a great pastime while traveling.
At the beginning of the game, all pits are filled with 4 stones each. The player on the left side owns all the pits on the left half of the board and vice versa. When a player takes their turn, they choose one of their pits, pick up all the stones in it, and distribute them counterclockwise into the following pits. A stone is placed in each pit except for the opponent's Kalaha. If the last seed lands in the player's own Kalaha, they receive a bonus turn and get to play again. This can be repeated indefinitely. If the last stone of a turn lands in an empty pit of the active player and there are one or more stones in the opponent's corresponding pit, both the last stone and the opposing stones are "captured" and placed into the player's Kalaha. The game ends when all pits of one player are empty. The other player then empties their pits and places the seeds in their winning pit. The winner is the one who has the most seeds in their Kalaha. Note: Not suitable for children under 36 months due to choking hazards from small parts.
