What if the next winter comes? Since the beginning of the railway era, it has been necessary to clear the tracks during snowfall or blizzards. The range of railway service vehicles includes simple snow plows, large snow plows, and high-performance snow blowers. At Deutsche Bundesbahn, it became necessary in the 1960s to replace the old steam-powered snow blowers. Various heavy-duty rail vehicles equipped with Beilhack diesel snow blower units were tested in the Alps, in the Allgäu region, and abroad. One disadvantage of these vehicles was the need for an additional locomotive for propulsion. To make snow removal even more efficient, a self-propelled high-performance snow blower was developed that could handle snow depths of up to 3 meters. This would have prepared them well for any weather whims. However, after extensive test runs, the series delivery to Deutsche Bundesbahn was delayed until the early 1990s.
