Product details
It was the heyday of the camping expert Westfalia from Rheda-Wiedenbrück when the James Cook was created on the Mercedes-Benz T1 chassis. The name James Cook, derived from the famous 18th-century navigator, was to become synonymous with a legendary van conversion – the era of motorhomes had set new standards. This large model was developed by Westfalia on the Mercedes-Benz chassis in 1977. It was the first motorhome to combine a wet cell with a hardtop extension. Driven by its good reputation, the James Cook paved the way for a new generation of modern vans. The first James Cook was built by Westfalia on the new Mercedes-Benz TN/T1 series in 1977. In 1976, the Westfalia design office created the first sketches of a van with a raised roof and a revolutionary floor plan. For Westfalia, it was a true turning point, as after years of legendary collaboration with Volkswagen and its famous motorhomes on T1 and T2 chassis, they turned to Mercedes-Benz for the first time. With the James Cook, a new generation of motorhomes was created, offering comfort and safety. What distinguished it at first glance was its raised roof, which reached a height of 3.10 m and allowed for an interior height of 2.20 m. With its family-friendly livability, the James Cook (5.24 m) was to become the favorite companion of frequent travelers. The body and high roof were white, the camping interior was light ivory, and the seats were slate gray. The chassis featured a black grille and tow hitch. The grille was adorned with a silver Mercedes-Benz star. The taillights and reflectors were printed in red. The side Westfalia design featured a striped look and a royal blue "James Cook" lettering with golden embellishments. The high roof at the front and back bore the black Westfalia lettering. The front headlights were silvered, and the curtains on the sides and back were printed.
