The combination lock is a TSA combination lock. If suspicious or unidentifiable material is found during baggage screening, the TSA lock can be opened with a master key by the U.S. Transportation Security Administration (TSA), allowing the baggage to be searched and the lock to be secured again afterward. Therefore, the correct combination or key is not necessary to open the standard baggage lock on luggage equipped with TSA locks. If a suitcase does not have a TSA lock and only has a simple combination lock, it may happen that during a necessary search of the baggage, this lock is broken open by security authorities without consulting the owner. Meanwhile, authorities in other countries, including Canada, Japan, Israel, Austria, South Korea, and Finland, have also begun to open TSA locks.
