Unfortunately, that is also possible with this cushion.
The surfaces here are both padded (somewhat furry surface). Depending on the base, this cushion holds better or less well on the base. In my experience, this does not necessarily prevent it from slipping away. Not even with the Velcro systems of some mats, because the Velcro strips don't really last long on the padded surface!
Generally I fix pillows with the sleeping bag where I fold a small hollow or take a microfibre towel to help.
