Better than AMD? Intel introduces mobile 11th-gen Tiger-Lake H45 processors

Intel has announced the launch of mobile 11th-gen Tiger-Lake H45 processors. They’re based on 10 nanometers architecture, boast up to eight cores and are expected to outshine AMD’s Ryzen.

With the launch of Tiger Lake-H45, Intel wants to reclaim the crown in mobile CPUs for creator and gaming notebooks. Or, depending on your view, defend its current market lead. The new SoCs, which are manufactured in a 10 nm Superfin process, claim to beat AMD’s Ryzen 5000H in terms of performance in the low, double-digit percentage range.

Here’s a first overview of the new consumer models. Intel has also presented equivalents for the commercial sector:

The new top model Core i9-11980HK with 8 cores and 16 threads manages up to 5 GHz. This means the turbo clock is 300 MHz lower compared to the predecessor Core i9-10980HK. However, thanks to the new manufacturing process, this difference is not only compensated for by more computing power per clock (IPC), but also increased. For single-core tasks 12 per cent more performance is expected. For multi-core tasks, this number should be 19 per cent.

According to Intel, the new top model can beat an AMD Ryzen 9 5900HX by double digits. The Core i9-11980HK is supposed to achieve an advantage of 11 to 26 per cent in games. For applications, this should be 18 to 24 per cent taking the iGPU into account. Whether this is true will be revealed by first independent tests expected at the beginning of June. That’s when the first notebooks with Tiger Lake-H45 are expected.
