David Looking at Things: Logitech G400

In this series, I take a look at things that usually hardly get any attention. Up today: my long-standing mouse.

The Logitech G400 dates back to 2011. I remember wondering at the time whether it was a good idea to buy a gaming mouse as a non-gamer. Today, I know: yes, it was a great idea.

Use this mouse as intended and it won’t break. «As intended» means everything except wilfully destroying it in a temper tantrum. My G400 still works and I’ve been using it daily for almost ten years. Ergonomically, it's a perfect fit. Having said that, it’s also a matter of getting used to it. The longer you use a mouse, the more comfortable it becomes.

The silver Logitech button used to be covered with a thin black plastic layer, which has peeled off over the years. On the underside, one of the three glides has completely worn away. Apart from that, the mouse is in good condition. It doesn’t feel sticky and dirty like many mice that have been in use for a long time. It’s easy to clean.

My interest in IT and writing landed me in tech journalism early on (2000). I want to know how we can use technology without being used. Outside of the office, I’m a keen musician who makes up for lacking talent with excessive enthusiasm.
