Powdering your nose is passé – now it’s your lashes’ turn

Want to plump up your lashes but don’t want to fork out for a new mascara? This little make-up step could be all you’re missing

A dusting of powder on my nose, then some on my thighs (sorry, but I need to keep the terrors of summer at bay) and some on my eyelashes. That’s right, I said eyelashes. It might sound unusual, but it supposedly acts as a kind of primer under your mascara, conjuring up fuller, thicker lashes. But is the prep work worth it? Find out in the video at the top of the page.

Side note: If you’re using this technique, powder residue can stick to your mascara brush and make its way into the tube. Over time, this can thicken the liquid and gum up the brush. That’s why you should either only apply it occasionally or use a mascara that you would’ve binned otherwise.

And if you’re still on the hunt for a good mascara, that can do a pretty good job without powder, check out my recommendations here:

As a massive Disney fan, I see the world through rose-tinted glasses. I worship series from the 90s and consider mermaids a religion. When I’m not dancing in glitter rain, I’m either hanging out at pyjama parties or sitting at my make-up table. P.S. I love you, bacon, garlic and onions.
