Super Bowl version of Trailer Monday: the best trailers and TV spots

The Super Bowl took place on Sunday night. Which is why Trailer Tuesday is already arriving on Monday. Because for us film fans, the Super Bowl means trailer time!
Three and a half hours of madness on a football pitch. In between, commercials that cost $5.6 million per 30 seconds - just for airtime. It's all part of the Super Bowl, and for us movie fans, it's something of a trailer mecca. That's why Trailer Tuesday is exceptionally becoming Trailer Monday.
Best of Super Bowl Trailers
Super Bowl trailers are usually around 30 seconds long and compress a lot of content into a short amount of time. Often studios will release the original trailer a few hours before or after. I'll link to it wherever it's available.
The Jesus Rolls
I admit it, this trailer wasn't shown at the Super Bowl. Long live the Super Bowl list that doesn't even begin with a Super Bowl trailer.... But man, I can't ignore the sequel to 'The Big Lebowski', even if it is a spin-off! After all, we're talking about Jesus Quintana (John Turturro) - also known as 'the Jesus' - who still plays as deftly as he did in 1998 in the original!
Theatrical release: 6 March 2020
A Quiet Place: Part 2
Not that the 30 seconds reveal much. Compared to the first trailer, though, the Super Bowl trailer shows one thing above all else: John Krasinski! The fact is that 'A Quiet Place 2' begins just after the first part, when lead actor and caring father Lee Abbott, just played by Krasinski, sacrifices himself for his family.
Part Two would aim to answer questions left unanswered in Part One. How it all began, for example. John Krasinski's performance - and the fans are happy. We'll also take a look at the world of survivors outside the Abbott house.
Theatrical release: 19 March 2020
Mulan
30 seconds of madness. No, but honestly... Did you see Fa Mulan (Liu Yifei) after about 12 seconds of trailer time fending off a spear with a circular kick while on horseback?
Let's take a look at the longer version:
Yes, the cover of the reflections song familiar from the Mulan cartoon, which could be heard in the first trailer, has disappeared. Taken as a whole, the Mulan film seems to be saying at every second: what's the point of remaking a Disney classic if it's just going to be remade identically - like "The Lion King" in 2019?
Fairly. "Mulan" certainly doesn't want to be a remake of the cartoon, but a reinterpretation of the ancient Chinese folk poem on which the story is based. The cinematography - magnificent. The look reminds me strongly of "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" - especially when it comes to the action scenes where the actors are obviously suspended from invisible cables. I love it - that slightly "handmade" effect.
Undeniable: I can't wait to see the film.
Theatrical release: 27 March 2020
James Bond: No Time To Die
This April. The 25th Film. Will change. Everything.
Thanks for those ultra-generic MGM trailer sentences. Still, I like the mini trailer: what's shown reminds me of classic old-school Bond with a modern twist. There's also some wonderful behind-the-scenes footage and gadgets galore. Plus the Aston Martin. Brilliant. And let's not forget the fantastic cast! As well as Daniel Craig as 007, we also have Ralph Fiennes, Christoph Waltz and new Oscar winner Rami Malek as the villain.
Theatrical release: 2 April 2020
Black Widow
Two things: the ultra-irritating electric guitar scream from David Harbour's character after about 11 seconds into the trailer - I don't think that was intentional - and the Taskmaster, who after about 22 seconds into the trailer picks up a shield lying on the ground like Captain America would. It's interesting, because a Taskmaster's main skill is instantly memorising his opponents' movements.
So the question is: what role might Captain America play in "Black Widow"?
Theatrical release: 1 May 2020
Fast and Furious 9
Joa, isn't that bad, is it? Okay, the rocket propulsion in the trunk is very... over the top. However, after the scene with the nuclear submarine in the latest 'Fast and the Furious' nothing surprises me anymore.
Let's see what the trailer gives us in its "Extended Cut" version.
Serious? A jet that catches a car in flight with the help of a giant magnet?! And that's not even the worst of it. Where are the illegal races with tuned cars? Why does every new villain have to be linked to Dom (Vin Diesel) or someone in the cast? Of course, the dead have to come back to life... again.
Of course, "The Fast and the Furious" has never been known for eloquent, sobering storytelling. It's always about adrenaline, petrol and stunts in big stagings. Real stunts. But I suppose that's all in the past. Meanwhile, I can no longer distinguish which CGI comes from which part. The Fast series is growing... but not in a good direction.
Theatrical release: 21 May 2020
Top Gun: Maverick
The Super Bowl spot has one purpose: Capture the intensity and adrenaline rush of jet flights.
It worked.
But I still don't like Tom Cruise. That doesn't help either:
"Top Gun: Maverick" is one of those sequels I wouldn't have needed, but definitely want to see.
Theatrical release: 16 July 2020
The SpongeBob Movie
While the increasingly outlandish absurdities of "Fast and Furious" annoy me, I'm celebrating them here. Because "SpongeBob SquarePants" has never been different and never will be.
Theatrical release: 5 August 2020
Loki, WandaVision and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier
Marvel fans will find it hard to pass up Disney+. Especially when there's a three-in-one coming up. You can see the Falcon (Anthony Mackie) training with the shield inherited from Captain America. Next, a prison-like parallel reality featuring Wanda (Elizabeth Olsen) and Vision (Paul Bettany), who is normally dead. Finally, Loki (Tom Hiddleston), whose prison uniform bears the logo of the TVA - the Multiverse Police of the Marvel universe.
"The Falcon and the Winter Soldier" launch date: August 2020, Disney+
"WandaVision" launch date: winter 2020, Disney+
"Loki" release date: spring 2021, Disney+
Super Bowl: the best ad, the most expensive
Super Bowl ads are renowned for their sometimes shameless humour. To list them all would be a daunting task. That's why I've only chosen the ads that have something to do with the world of films and series.
Mountain Dew: Bryan Cranston's "The Shining"
Bryan Cranston as Jack Torrance? It's done!
Walmart: even the Martians from "Mars Attacks!" shop here
Walmart doesn't have the best reputation in the US. But their advertising is grandiose: The entire world of cinema shops there. Quite literally. There's Bill from "Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure", Frank - the pug from Men in Black - and even the aliens from the film "Arrival". Great cinema.
Audi: Arya Stark sings "Let it Go"
Maisie Williams, star of Game of Thrones, as Arya Stark declared "winter is coming". Then she jumped in an Audi, sang "... the cold never bothered me anyway" and drove off.
Rocket Mortgage: Jason Momoa changes skin
Oh, my God, Jason Momma's muscles aren't even real. That's pretty disturbing. I think I now need a mortgage from Rocket Mortgage.

Pringles: the invasion of the Pringles apocalyptic robots
Reader Muercu11 left the comment: "Mir fehlt aber noch der Rick and Morty Pringles-Werbespot." The Rick and Morty Pringles spot is still missing. He's right.
