The Tamagotchi returns - with Pac-Man
The iconic Tamagotchi pocket toy from the 90s is celebrating its revival - once again - thanks to Pac-Man's 40th birthday. He helps you to raise your virtual pet.
If you grew up in the 90s, you will be familiar with the Tamagotchi. The little toys spilled over from Japan to Europe and turned children into parents overnight. Because with Tamagotchi - which is made up of the words tamago for egg and wotchi for watch - you have to raise and look after a virtual pet of the same name. To celebrate a much bigger cult figure, namely Pac-Man, the gaming company Bandai Namco is taking the gadget out of mothballs. "Pac-Man" landed in Japan's arcades in 1980. Back then, the game was still called Puck Man. However, because the name was too close to Fuck Man in English, the arcade game was renamed without further ado. 40 years later, the yellow glutton is helping to raise the latest generation of Tamagotchi. He defends the defenceless creatures against evil spirits and bugs. In addition to the usual duties such as feeding and pampering, there are two mini-games: Pac-Man and Catch Game. The minimalist graphics, at the level of a Nokia 3210, have not changed much.
The new edition will be available in the USA from 15 March for 20 dollars. When and whether the toy will be available here is currently unknown.
