Product details

24.2 Megapixel, Back-Illuminated Stacked Sensor. For top-notch 6K video recording, frame rates of up to 60p and various recording formats are available. With the dual recording function, you can capture the same event simultaneously as Full HD video and 17-megapixel photos (16:9). The EOS R1 features a Back-Illuminated Stacked full-frame sensor with 24.2 megapixels, known for its excellent sensitivity and incredible speed.

The speed you need. Fleeting moments can be captured with customizable continuous shooting up to 40 fps and shutter speeds of up to 1/64,000. This results in virtually no rolling shutter distortion. With pre-recording, moments can be captured even before the shutter is fully pressed.

In focus: performance. Deep learning and AF cross sensors identify and track subjects with phenomenal precision. The DIGIC Accelerator processor supports the Action Priority mode, which automatically determines the main subject in sports like soccer, volleyball, and basketball, adjusting the AF area accordingly.

The EOS R1 also offers an even faster and more reliable connection via WIFI 6E and 2.5Gbit LAN for professional use at large events.

Hybrid creativity. For top-quality 6K video recording, frame rates of up to 60p and various recording formats are available. With the dual recording function, you can capture the same event simultaneously as Full HD video and 17-megapixel photos (16:9).

Compatible lenses: All Canon RF lenses and EF lenses with adapters.

The new Canon EOS R1 only just missed out on the top spot in our list of the best cameras. It is only beaten by the Sony Alpha 1 Il, which came onto the market at almost the same time. The features and handling of the EOS R1 are unrivalled. The comparatively low resolution of 24 megapixels meets the requirements of professional sports photography, where maximum speed is essential.

Canon's new professional flagship impresses across the board when tested. The EOS R1 should be the first choice, especially for photographers who spend a lot of time travelling in the high-ISO range. However, the full-frame competition also has strong cameras on sale. Nikon's top models are significantly cheaper and Sony has an even faster camera in its portfolio with the Alpha 9 Ill, as well as the...

On paper and in the first practical test of a pre-production model, the EOS R1 made an excellent impression. The EOS could become the new benchmark for sports cameras, especially in terms of speed and autofocus. At the time of going to press at the end of October 2024, we were not yet able to carry out a lab test, as the series models were not due to be available until mid-November...
