The OM designation for a fiber optic cable defines the quality class of a multimode fiber optic cable. The classification distinguishes four classes (OM1 to OM4) based on the level of optical attenuation and the possible transmission rate and distance. The OM3 and OM4 fiber categories are designed for high-speed applications such as 10/40/100 Gigabit Ethernet or Fibre Channel at 850 nm. OM3 multimode fibers have an effective modal bandwidth (EMB) of 2 GHz x km. SC connectors are standard connectors for fiber optic cabling. They feature an automatic locking mechanism and twist protection. Their use is recommended for new installations of computer networks using fiber optic technology. The connector is suitable for both singlemode and multimode fibers and can be used to create simplex, duplex, and multi-fiber connections.
