I contacted Brother Switzerland support today. I had to send them a picture of my toner. They confirmed my printer came with " toners permettant d'imprimer 2 600 pages en noir et blanc, 1 400 pages en couleur"... So its not the TN248 available in shops or their XL versions. They asked me to send photo of the toner where serial numbers are visible and where we dont see the reference like in other official shop original toners. Its like special "startup toners" (to ers de demarrage) and they have a capacity between TN48 and TN48 XL versions.

The printer will not work if only the black and white toner is installed and the colour toners are missing. Many modern printers, including colour printers, require all toner cartridges to be present in order to print as they often perform a check to ensure that all cartridges are installed. This also applies to the Brother MFC-L8390CDW as it is designed as a colour printer and requires the presence of all toner cartridges to function correctly.

When buying a new printer, starter cartridges are usually included, but these are only sufficient for a few printouts. The TN-248BK (black), TN-248C (cyan), TN-248M (magenta) and TN-248Y (yellow) toners are required for the Brother MFC-L8390CDW. These cartridges are available in standard and high-yield versions, such as TN-248XLBK for black.

In practice, the power consumption of the printer during operation is around 600 W, e.g. according to the Brack specifications. The specified power of 960 W describes the maximum power consumption, e.g. during the warm-up phase, and appears to correspond to measured values. During the warm-up phase, the high power consumption can shorten the duration and reduce heat losses, which is theoretically more efficient. This value is particularly relevant in order to optimally distribute devices to fuses - however, I have never had a fuse blow.

### Duplex printing and scanning Yes, the Brother MFC-L8390CDW can both print and scan duplex. The printer has an automatic double-sided printing function and a 50-page duplex automatic document feeder (ADF) that enables double-sided scanning. ### Comparison with the Brother MFC-L3770CDW The Brother MFC-L8390CDW could be cheaper than the MFC-L3770CDW for several reasons: - Technology and functions: The MFC-L8390CDW uses LED laser technology, which in some cases can be more cost-effective than traditional laser printing technology. It also offers a variety of functions such as NFC, Wi-Fi Direct and a higher scan resolution, but these do not necessarily have to be more expensive. - Market positioning: The MFC-L8390CDW is designed for small to medium-sized offices and could therefore be offered at a lower price to remain competitive in this market segment. - Availability and discounts: Price differences can also be influenced by current offers, discounts or regional pricing policies. ### Experience with the printer The Brother MFC-L8390CDW is generally described as a powerful and versatile device that is well suited for office environments. It offers fast print and scan speeds, a user-friendly interface and robust security features. However, some users have pointed out that running costs can be relatively high, especially for colour printing. If you're looking to switch from HP products, the Brother MFC-L8390CDW could be a good alternative, thanks to its comprehensive functions and compact, user-friendly design. However, it's worth checking the specific needs of your work environment and reading further reviews or test reports if necessary.

With the Brother MFC-L8390CDW printer it is possible to print using only the black toner when the colour toners are empty, but there are some limitations and steps that need to be followed. ### Black and white print mode - The printer can be operated in "B&W Print Only" mode when one or more colour toner cartridges are empty. If the colour toner cartridges are empty, the message "B&W Print Only Replace Ink" or "B&W 1-sided Print Only Replace Ink" appears on the touchscreen. ### Steps for black and white printing - Make sure that the message "B&W Print Only Replace Ink" or "B&W 1-sided Print Only Replace Ink" is displayed on the touchscreen. - You can then continue the printing process by changing the print settings on your PC or directly on the printer to "Black & White" or "Greyscale". ### Important notes - The printer stops all printing operations when a colour toner cartridge is removed and the cover is closed. It is necessary to reinsert the empty colour toner cartridges in order to use the black and white print mode. - There is no special "Eco mode" or similar settings that would reduce the consumption of colour toner when printing in black and white. These settings allow you to continue printing black documents with the Brother MFC-L8390CDW printer, even if the colour toner cartridges are empty.

The Brother printer "MFC-L8390CDWQJ1" can be used with Apple Mac computers, but there are a few important points to note: - AirPrint compatibility: If the printer supports AirPrint, it can be used without additional drivers, provided that the printer and the Mac are connected to the same network (Wi-Fi router). - Driver compatibility: Since macOS 10.15 Catalina, macOS only supports 64-bit drivers. If Brother does not provide 64-bit drivers for the specific model, some functions of the printer may not be available. - Network connection: A stable connection can be achieved by using an Ethernet cable instead of Wi-Fi, which can be especially helpful with older printers. - Firmware and drivers: Ensure that the latest firmware and, if applicable, the latest drivers are installed to avoid compatibility issues. It is advisable to follow the specific instructions from Brother and Apple to set up the printer properly and solve any problems.

The main difference between the Brother MFC-L8390CDW and the MFC-L8390CDWQJ1 lies not in the technical specifications or the functions of the printer itself, but rather in the sales conditions and the promotions on sale. - Technical specifications: Both models, MFC-L8390CDW and MFC-L8390CDWQJ1, have the same technical features, including print speed, paper capacity, security features and connectivity options. - Promotions and offers: The MFC-L8390CDWQJ1 model may include special promotions or offers, such as cashback, that are not available for the model without the "QJ1" designation. This designation could indicate a specific sales campaign or sales programme. Overall, it is the same product but with different sales conditions or promotions.
