I bought an external DVD drive for about €50. With Win11, you may have to change the compatibility mode.

On a PC, everything works fine. I don't know if the software can be run on a Mac interface. Sorry I can't help you more, you have to look online.

My Logilink video grabber works well, although it was much cheaper than a device bought elsewhere. I used it to digitise Video8 tapes. These are PAL. With the previous device I had constant problems with A/V synchronisation. This was due to the bandwidth used. With the Logilink I no longer have these problems, but I had to accept that the device delivers 640x480 pixels for the 4:3 format, i.e. not exactly the PAL 625 lines. The "pixels" of the original VHS signal are not the same height as they are width (analogue TV screen). I assume that if I don't accept 640x480 pixels, there are small transmission problems. But the quality is sufficient for me. If you watch the videos with e.g. VLC, you can correct the synchronisation. I would be interested in your further experiences.

Does it work with Hi8 cassettes?

Hello, Yes, it works with any analogue source as long as you can connect it. I bought it to digitize Hi8 tapes! The software supplied with it is not too bad, it captures in MPG but if you want to digitise directly in MKV or MP4 (for example) I strongly advise you to have a look at OBS (obsproject.com). It's free, open-source and works great! So for my part, the device was natively recognized by Windows. Win10 on a Core-i7, SSD disks, GeForce GTX1060 (for hardware encoding with OBS) = nickel digitization of Hi8 tapes played on my old Sony camera via the S-Video output) The only remark, despite the presence of left-right cinch connectors, it seems that the sound capture is only in mono. But it's not a big deal...

According to our research, this product is compatible with Windows 2000/XP/Vista/7/8/10. Unfortunately, it does not work under Mac OS. It is not necessary to purchase any software.
