Hello Claudia You can load the Sandisk Clip Sport like a USB stick via Windows Explorer as long as you have a Windows device and the songs are also stored as files (MP3, MP4, or similar), see the specifications of the device. A purchased music CD can be loaded onto the Sandisk via the Windows Media Center (as a playlist) or rip the CD beforehand.
Yes, it is no problem to connect the player under (x)Ubuntu, it works very well with USB Mass Storage. Apart from that, I find the player not so exhilarating because, like so many of the newer ones, it no longer allows you to play the files in the order of the file name. This is deadly for podcasts and classical music.
