This is relatively simple: Plug the hard disk into the Apple --> start Disk Utility (should be under "Applications" --> "Utilities") then select the hard disk you want to format (Attention: Make sure that you don't select the internal hard disk by mistake) and then format the hard disk with "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)" via the "Erase" tab. Double check that you have selected the correct hard drive in Disk Utility, otherwise you will wipe your system. :-P Also note that Windows cannot handle the HFS+ file system. So you can only use an HFS+ formatted hard disk (without additional software) under Apple.

You must not connect a hard drive to a mobile phone, the mobile phone may even be damaged. The mobile phone supplies far too little power. This only works, if at all, with a USB hub with its own power supply.

Plug the micro USB-B connector of the supplied cable into the hard drive and the USB-A connector into a free USB port on your PC. The hard drive is supplied with power directly via the USB port, an additional power supply unit is not required.

The external hard drive must be reformatted for use with a Mac, as it is preformatted for Windows at the factory. For large amounts of data on a Mac, we recommend formatting with APFS or Mac OS Extended, not exFAT. You can easily do this with the macOS utility "Disk Utility" by selecting the hard drive, clicking on "Erase" and selecting the appropriate Mac format. The hard drive is then fully compatible and is also suitable for Time Machine backups.

The Toshiba Canvio Basics external hard drive (1 TB) is pre-formatted in NTFS for Microsoft Windows operating systems. To use this hard drive with other operating systems, such as macOS, it needs to be reformatted. If you wish to format it in exFAT, it is possible to do so, but you will have to reformat the hard drive manually. However, be sure to have a backup of your data before reformatting, as this process will erase all data on the hard drive.

The Toshiba Canvio Basic external hard drive (1 TB, HDTB510EK3AA) is not specifically certified or recommended for use with the PlayStation 4. Here are some important points to note: - The Canvio Basic hard drive is designed primarily for use with PCs and laptops and comes with a USB 3.2 Gen 1 port, which is compatible with USB 2.0. - There is no official support or certification by Toshiba for the use of this hard drive with the PlayStation 4. - The PlayStation 4 supports external hard drives, but there are specific requirements and recommendations for compatible devices that are usually provided by Sony. If you want to use an external hard drive with your PlayStation 4, you should look for devices specifically certified and recommended for the PS4.
