Hard disk inside, soft outside.
No long-term study here:
During 1h in operation - did not get as warm in my case as was to be feared when reading other comments.
Update:
After 2 years, still diligently in use without any dropouts. Super!
It also survived a stress test (aida64 extreme) for an hour. Temperature = more than hand-warm, but no more.Pro

My 2nd Seagate, which broke after a few months from one moment to the next. All data gone.
This is already my second Seagate hard drive, which broke after a few months. Catastrophe, all data gone. The drive looks super nice, but its performance is extremely slow and, as I said, completely unreliable. Seagate is passé for me.

Does what it is supposed to do. Recommendable.
You can't go wrong with seagate.good quality and does what it's supposed to. I had previously looked at the seagate backup plus ultra touch. Unfortunately, the USB-A to USB-C adapter only comes with the touch in the box.

Reliable and almost noiseless.
Quite a few of these disks in the household have been playing for years without any problems. Partly as a backup, partly "just like that". Wonderful.
