The dealer's statement that only original Synology ram can be expanded to max. 8GB is not correct.
I have also installed "Kingston KCP426SD8/16 (1 x 16GB, 2666 MHz, DDR4-RAM, SO-DIMM)" and now have 18GB Ram.

After 10 years of using the DS213j, the update support up to and including 7.2.1 ran smoothly and has now been discontinued (I would have continued to use the NAS - a total of 29,665 operating hours with WD Reds).
For my requirements and usage, I have decided on the DS224+ as a successor.
Here's to the next 10 years ;-)

Little improvement over DS220+, still one of the best.
Hope Synology will really as more Ram, 2.5Gb network and (any) SSD for storage.
But comparing to QNAP and Asustor who offer these option, we can say they are years behind the DSM software maturity and security. And Apps are crazy useful.
Was going to buy Asustor 5402 with incredible specs... but software is very bad

I bought a NAS, so big, so marvellous, from Digitec, it was so obvious. The bill arrived, the sum was large, now I'm standing there and have to go. The debt is pressing, hardly bearable, but the NAS won't complain. The storage spaces are full and wide, my debt grows over them. The purchase was smart, but expensive, that's true, now I'm counting zeros. But soon everything will be smooth again, the debts less, the NAS remains full.
I only give it 4 stars and not 5 because of the minus points. But I am very enthusiastic about the product.
I'm using a NAS for the first time for my own use at home (just a laptop + smart TV). I want to use it to make back-ups and set up a video station that can be accessed via the Internet using a username/password.
But when I discovered the scope of what the DS224+ with the DSM software makes possible, I quickly realised that I would be able to do a lot more with it: e.g. virtual machines (with Docker), my own VPN, my own mail server, etc. - This thing can simply do everything!
Anyone who has been infected by my enthusiasm should please first find out on the Internet what the best model is for you: there are as many possibilities as sand in the sea: from a fully finished NAS to an old PC, via Arduino, you can set up a NAS with almost anything. Synology's software (DSM), however, makes it very easy to set up a NAS for users who are not IT experts. It has many setup wizards and the documentation on Synology.com is quite good, you learn a lot and quickly.
Otherwise, on youtube I can recommend these channels when it comes to NAS and Synology in particular: @NAScompares, @SpaceREX and @WunderTech. So have fun ;-)

Easy to use but very loud in operation. I have the Nas in the living room. You can hear the Nas rattling while streaming...
